The United Veterans Honor/Color Guard had a very busy year in 2011. The members participated in 87 events. We were requested to give military rites at 75 veterans funerals. We also participated in the Veterans Recognition parade at the Nebraska State Fair and marched in the Veterans Day Parade at the Veterans Home during the year. Colors were posted at many civic events. It is difficult to determine the amount of time required for these events but a member usually donates at least four hours of his day for a funeral and generally two to two and one-half hours for a color posting. Our busiest months were April, July and September. In those three months we did 35 events. I know I am grateful for the time that the members give because without them many of our own deceased members would not be honored and it is the least we can do for thosewho served in the military and many who donated their time to the Post and the Club and to the citizens of our City which call upon us often to honor the flag.
